L A Private Client - Providing Peace of Mind Through the Generations
Do you have strong views about your medical care and treatments? Will your wishes be followed if you are not mentally capable of expressing your views at a later date?
If you want to ensure your wishes are carried out then you must put in place a legal document called an Advance Decision. These were formerly called Advance Directives and are sometimes referred to as living Wills. Whatever you call them, these documents, provided they comply with certain criteria are a legal way of recording your wishes regarding particular medical treatments in specific circumstances in the future.
Advance decisions are not for everyone as they bind you and the medics even if you lose capacity. An advance decision cannot be overridden by family or even a spouse. You can, however, cancel an advance decision whilst you retain the necessary mental capacity to do so.
If you would like further details of how these would work in your circumstances please contact us.
